Our History

1946- City Car Unloaders is founded in Chicago by Leroy Dettman. 
1956- City Car Unloaders changes its name to Labor Pool.
1966- Labor Pool enters the healthcare market and Medical Personnel Pool is formed.  
1975- The industrial and clerical divisions of Medical Personnel Pool are renamed Personnel Pool of America (PPA)
1978- PPA becomes a subsidiary of H&R Block, Inc. 
 

1991- H&R Block acquires Interim Services Corporation and merges it with PPA.
1992- The newly merged organization is renamed to Interim Services, Inc. 
1994- Interim Systems, Inc. is spun off by H&R Block and becomes publicly traded on the NASDAQ. 
1997- Interim HealthCare is sold to Cornerstone Equity Investors and Bank of America Capital and becomes privately held. 
1999- Norrell Corporation is acquired by Interim Services, Inc.
2000- Interim Services, Inc. changes its name to Spherion Corporation. 
2002- DeLaney's purchase the Spherion Mid Ohio Franchise including Richland, Ashland, Huron, Crawford, Knox and Morrow Counties.
2004- Erie County is added.
2005- Wayne County is added and an office is opened in Wooster.
2006- Marion County is added.
 

2012- Spherion Mid Ohio moves our Wayne County office from Wooster to Orrville.
2016- Spherion celebrates 70 years of staffing and recruiting excellence. 
2018- Our Ashland office moves. We purchased the old Huntington Bank on the corner of Mifflin and Katherine Rd. remodeling most of the building (if you visit you will see the old bank safe is still there.)
2020- Spherion Mid Ohio opens our Professional Direct Hire Division based out of our Headquarters office in Mansfield, servicing the entire franchise footprint. 
2020- The Sandy Mazur Scholarship in Leadership is established to award students continuing their education financial aid.

2021- Spherion celebrates its 75-year anniversary and launches its refreshed brand identity. 
2024- Our Mid Ohio Franchise expands and purchases Holmes, Summit and Tuscarawas Counties

2025- We moved our Wayne County office from Orrville to the heart of downtown Wooster.
